Q: Do I need to use different types of adhesive when I am making cards as opposed to scrapbooking? What kind of adhesives do you recommend for each? –Erin in Iowa
Dear Erin,
I use the same adhesives when making cards and scrapbooking. I love the Xyron adhesive machine (the repositionable cartridge is my favorite). With only the turn of a handle, it applies a thin layer of adhesive on the back of almost any paper or embellishment (it must be thin in profile). It’s easy to use and in my opinion, the best adhesive on the market. It stays in place but also can be repositionable if you choose that particular cartridge. Other
cartridges include permanent, magnetic and laminate. I also love Glue Dots for chipboard and 3-D embellishments and Herma tabs for on-the- go scrapbooking.
Q: I like to incorporate “found” objects like seashells, beads, etc into my layouts. The problem is, my books and pages start getting really bulky. Any idea on how to do this without making my book bulky? –Jessica in California
Hi Jessica,
Several years ago, a company came up with “hard plastic” sheet protectors for bulky pages. However, I don’t think this product is being manufactured any longer.
I’m a pretty big stickler in making sure my pages aren’t bulky and are low in profile (not too thick). I’ve used 3-D items on pages before and they begin damaging other pages surrounding it. I’d suggest you leave seashells and beads for shadow boxes.
Another suggestion is to take photos or scan these 3-D items and use in this format on your pages. I recently was introduced to the Flip Pal Mobile Scanner and I love it.
